Vision Statement

The following is a formal vision statement of the Loughborough Children’s Choir approved in October 2013 by All Saints with Holy Trinity Church, Loughborough, and those involved in the DioSing! project at Leicester Cathedral.

Vision Statement for Loughborough Children’s Choir (LCC)

Context:

All Saints with Holy Trinity recognises that music and singing are a gift from God that is life giving for all. As such we want to encourage music and singing especially in the next generation, and see this as part of the overall mission of the church.

Summary:

The vision for LCC falls under two general headings: music and mission. Broadly speaking, the music vision is to train LCC members to the highest possible standard in singing and performance within the living English choral tradition. Broadly speaking the mission vision is to extend the work of building God’s kingdom through loving service, relationships, and the joy of music. It is envisaged that LCC will be both a focus and vehicle for mission.

In Detail:

Although there is considerable overlap and interdependence between the different parts of the vision for LCC, for convenience this vision is itemised under four different headings.

The music vision internal to LCC is to:

  • Bring together as many local children as possible from ages 5 to 16 committed to the purpose of singing.
  • Be based at All Saints with Holy Trinity church and under the direction of a professional choral director appointed through Leicester Cathedral.
  • Train the children in LCC to the highest possible standard within the living English choral tradition
  • Provide LCC with the opportunity to perform in church services and as many other contexts as possible
  • Provide all of the above with due consideration given to the need for children to take part in other activities and, indeed, not to be overburdened with too much pressure or expectation.

The music vision external to LCC is to:

  • Bring high quality music to a variety of audiences within All Saints, within Loughborough, and indeed further afield.
  • Be an inspiration for other children.
  • Bring joy to parents and carers of LCC members, and indeed any adults who hear their performances.
  • Enhance the musical life of All Saints and help bring the church together through a unified musical vision.
  • Advertise All Saints as a church of musical excellence.
  • Be a beacon for musical excellence within the town of Loughborough.
  • Be an inspiration for similar projects within other churches and dioceses.
  • Be a hub for the local DioSing! project.
  • Provide an opportunity for children taking part in the DioSing! project within local schools to develop their singing further.

The mission vision internal to LCC is that through their musical activities, LCC will:

  • Give LCC members an appreciation for the traditions of the Anglican church and the Christian sacraments.
  • Provide an invitation to LCC members for further involvement in church life and further exploration of the Christian message.
  • Provide an example to LCC members of loving service through the leaders of the choir and All Saints church as a whole.
  • Generate friendships within the choir, and across generations between choir members and members of All Saints.
  • Help the choir members grow in confidence and their ability to work as a part of team.
  • Provide all of the above within the understanding that the children will not be coerced into the Christian faith or, if they already attend another church, swapping their current church for All Saints.

The mission vision external to LCC is that through their musical activities, LCC will:

  • Give parents, carers and friends of LCC members exposure to the traditions of the Anglican church and the Christian sacraments through church services.
  • Provide an invitation to parents, carers and friends of LCC members for further involvement in church life and further exploration of the Christian message.
  • Be a beacon for All Saints church, and indeed, church per se, to the wider community.
  • Be an inspiration for greater harmony and a common vision within All Saints itself.
  • Encourage children and families into All Saints and for the church to evolve to meet their needs, thus bringing new life to All Saints.
  • Enhance the worship at All Saints.
